Success at Last!

In 1985 I passed the Cert. TEFL at International House, Hastings.I first came to Izmir in 1986 when I got my first job in a language school. I got married the next year and then worked for 3 years at a private secondary school.
In 1991/2 I took the RSA TEFL diploma and passed the written part. It was at this time I began developing my interest in using pictures for teaching. In 1992 I returned to UK for 3 years, returning to Turkey in 1995.

In 1996 I started working at the Aegean University. In 1997 I started writing material and had some interest from a major publisher, who invited me to write a book proposal, although this did not come to anything.

In 1999 I had an article published, :'Fun with pictures in ELT' in IATEFL 'Issues', developed from material from the book proposal. This led to an invitation to be a plenary speaker at the IATEFL conference in Bulgaria 2000 where I was voted best speaker, which in turn resulted in an invitation to speak at the 2001 conference. In July 2000 I had an article published in 'English Teaching Professional', and I have had another two part article accepted by ETp. IATEFL 'Issues' has also accepted another article. All articles are descriptions of original classroom material devised and developed by myself.

I am in the process of doing the Aston MSc.TESOL.and continue to write material.

One project I am involved with at present is with a blind English teacher. As well as helping her with language I have arranged for to her speak at the British Council in Izmir and interviewed her for 'Issues'. Look out for it!

Izmir is in the West of Turkey, on the Aegean coast.
